Diane owned the property.

Ray no tenía autorización para construir allí.

And the construction needed to stop.

Part 4: The unfinished pavilion

The following weekend, I drove to the lake.

I hadn’t visited in years.

The cabin still stood beneath the old trees, with its wooden porch facing the water.

But the peaceful shoreline had changed.

A half-built pavilion stood near the dock.

Stacks of lumber covered the grass.

I recognized the danger immediately.

My business regularly deals with electrical systems, and the installation looked unsafe.

I photographed everything and sent the images to Sandra.

Then a truck approached.

Uncle Pete climbed out.

“Thomas,” he said awkwardly. “Didn’t expect to find you here.”

“I didn’t expect to find construction on Diane’s property.”
