Sandra spread documents across Diane’s dining table.
The property deed.
The tax records.
The written refusals.
The photographs of the construction.
The county inspection notice.
And the insurance warning.
Then she produced the trust statements.
Three payments totaling $2,175 had been made after I stopped living with Ray.
Cheryl stared at the documents.
“Ray, what is this?”
He said nothing.
I finally spoke.
“I didn’t arrange this meeting to humiliate you. Megan reached out because she wanted the truth.”
Ray shifted in his chair.
“Esto es lo que tiene que suceder. El pabellón debe ser eliminado, la tierra restaurada y los pagos del fideicomiso devueltos”.
I paused.
“And I want you to tell Megan what happened when I was thirteen.”
Dad’s expression hardened.
“You were difficult.”
“I was a child.”
“You needed discipline.”
“You abandoned me.”
He rubbed his hands together.
Then he said something unexpected.
“I came back.”
