The family’s financial collapse.

The sale of the farm.

Decades under different owners.

Six years of abandonment.

Yet every spring, those plants had continued growing.

Opal arrived wearing her favorite navy dress.

Nate pulled out her chair at the head of the table.

She looked around slowly.

Her eyes rested on the cream cabinets Ron had built.

Then the curtains Judy had sewn.

Finally, she gazed toward the kitchen window.

The same window through which she’d watched her husband lose his farm equipment in 1961.

Ron stood behind her chair, preparing to say grace.

Everyone bowed their heads.

“Lord,” he began, “thank You for this house…”

His voice faltered.

He tried again.

But no words came.

She continued the prayer for him.

Enséñanos a notarlas. Amén”.
