For once, the Harrington name opened the right doors.
Vanessa attempted to maintain her composure as officers stepped onto the porch. Martin tried talking over everyone, citing property law, family law, privacy law, anything that might restore his sense of power.
But the recording played clearly.
Her voice.
His voice.
The threats.
The admission of illegally accessing medical records.
And the phrase that immediately hardened one officer’s expression:
“We ensured the strongest heir survived.”
That statement changed everything.
Officers escorted Vanessa to a waiting car. Her chin remained lifted, her appearance immaculate, her expression as poisonous as ever.
As she passed Blake, she stopped.
“You will regret choosing her over your family.”
Blake held her gaze for a long moment.
Then he answered, “Emma and those boys are my family.”
The words struck the porch like thunder.
I didn’t know whether to resent them or cling to them.
