Luna moved one side of her headphones.
“Yes,” she replied. “Letters are nice. They don’t make loud noises.”
Marian sonrió.
“That’s exactly why I like them, too.”
Shortly afterward, the Pembertons prepared to leave.
Charles shook my hand.
“You and your daughter would always be welcome at my table.”
Brooks returned from walking his parents to their car.
He looked at Ainsley.
“Necesito algo de tiempo para pensar”.
“Brooks, please.”
“I’ll call you later.”
Se fue sin decir una palabra.
Mi hermana se volvió hacia mí, furiosa.
“¡Has arruinado todo mi futuro!”
I looked at her.
“No, Ainsley. I simply stopped sacrificing mine.”
Luna and I drove home.
For a while, she silently watched the Christmas lights along the street.
Then she spoke.
“Daddy?”
“Yes, sweetheart?”
“Nos sentamos en la mesa grande”.
Sonreí.
“Lo hicimos”.
“And Mrs. Pemberton had a moth her brother made.”
“Yes.”
“He was like me.”
