Yo asentí.
“Ambos hemos estado tomando turnos adicionales durante dos años”.
Parecía preocupado.
“You should’ve told us you wanted a house. We could have—”
He stopped.
Nate met his eyes.
“Could have what, Dad?”
Ron sighed.
“I don’t understand why you’re upset. We told you how proud we were of you. Look what you’ve accomplished!”
Hizo un gesto hacia la granja.
“Kim estaba luchando. Jeff necesitaba ayuda. Stacy tenía deudas. Ustedes dos siempre lograron todo ustedes mismos”.
Nate lowered his head.
I hadn’t intended to speak.
But after two years of exhaustion, I couldn’t remain silent.
“Ron, I know that card was meant kindly.”
He looked at me.
“But capable people get tired too.”
The yard became silent.
“We didn’t buy this house because things were easy,” I continued. “We bought it because we worked extra jobs, sacrificed things we loved, and saved every dollar we could.”
