He hesitated.
“Escuché a través de conocidos mutuos que estabas haciendo este viaje. Sabía que Marcus todavía no te había dicho la verdad”.
Lo miré.
“So you followed me here?”
“I arranged to be aboard,” he admitted. “I thought I’d find a way to speak with you. But when I saw you, I realized I couldn’t simply disappear again.”
I didn’t know what to say.
Part of me was grateful.
Part of me was angry that he’d involved himself in my marriage without consulting me.
And part of me was overwhelmed by the fact that the first person who’d broken my heart had returned carrying the truth about the second.
Peter seemed to understand.
“No hice esto porque espero algo de ti, Eleanor.”
I looked at him.
“Then why?”
“Because you deserved to know you weren’t responsible for a decision Marcus made behind your back.”
