Reservé un crucero en solitario después de un doloroso divorcio de mi esposo: en el cuarto día, un extraño se sentó en mi mesa y susurró: “Soy la razón por la que tu esposo te divorció”

“Yes.”

I leaned backward.

“Why?”

Peter hesitated.

“Because I recognized him. And because I knew what losing someone without an explanation could do to a person.”

He explained that the investigator had documented a pattern.

Restaurants.

A hotel.

Repeated Thursday meetings.

Photographs showing Marcus with the same woman.

Thursday.

The word echoed in my mind.

Marcus had been working late on Thursdays for months.

Sometimes he didn’t come home until nearly midnight.

He’d always blamed meetings.

Deadlines.

Unexpected problems at the office.

I’d believed him.

I looked at Peter.

“So Marcus was having an affair?”

“The evidence strongly suggested it.”

I stared at the table.

For twenty-two years, I’d believed my husband when he said he was working.

Now I was learning that at least some of those evenings had been spent with someone else.

“Did you tell him you knew?”

Peter nodded.

“I went to his office.”
